The Louisiana State Police have taken over the investigation into the death of a Ville Platte man who died after Ville Platte police were called to a report of a domestic altercation early shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, on Oak Street.

Judge Joel Davis again dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by Turkey Creek Mayor Heather Cloud, in the same courtroom he dismissed the lawsuit earlier this month. Both were civil hearings and did not involve juries.

According to Tyler County (Texas) Sheriff Bryan Weatherford, 18-year-old Dane Marcotte of Ville Platte was fatally shot in a hunting accident by his cousin, Ricky Woodruff III of Ville Platte, who is also 18 years old.
