Skin disorders are not uncommon in the elderly. As we age, our skin becomes thinner and more fragile. Shingles is a skin infection caused by the virus that causes chicken pox. It most often occurs in individuals between the ages of 50-70.

One of the most nutritious foods on the traditional Thanksgiving menu is the sweet potato. These orange-skinned root vegetables offer a host of health benefits (especially when cooked without the unnecessary sugar and marshmallows).

Voting is very important to all citizens and is a privilege. This election is very important for Amendment One to pass in order to protect our senior citizens.

Good morning, readers, and happy Sunday! Welcome to my first of more articles to come on living the Christian life. Perhaps the first question we should ask is, “Why be a Christian?” It’s no secret that Christianity gets some pretty bad press these days, and from a variety of sources.

We all need to remember, and remember often, that our salvation is the result of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. He came into this world, lived a perfect, sinless life and was arrested, beaten, abandoned and crucified with criminals.

How many times have we placed our confidence in friends, knowing that they would never betray us, never speak ill about us, never try to hurt us, only to find that they, like us, suffer from the human condition. Mankind will let us down every time because the flesh is weak.

October is a very busy and fun month for all of us. It started off with a great time in big Mamou. We attended the bingo blowout hosted by Savoy Care Center. It was fun and entertaining and everyone totally enjoyed the delicious food.

Dwight L. Moody’s favorite verse was Isaiah 12:2, “I will trust and not be afraid.” He used to say, “You can travel first class or second class to heaven.” Second class is, “What time I am afraid, I will trust” (Psalm 56:3).

Depression and anxiety are both mood disorders that occur in the older adult. Sometimes they occur at the same time. Both disorders can affect an individual’s quality of life.
