A St. Landry Parish Animal Control supervisor urged the Evangeline Parish Police Jury to provide an animal shelter for small animals retrieved in rural areas of the parish, during the police jury’s monthly committee meeting session Tuesday, September 2.

South Louisiana Community College Chancellor Dr. Natalie Harder took more questions than are usually brought up to guest speakers during this month’s Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce meeting, causing a rare extension of the meeting by some 15 minutes Wednesday, August 27.

The tri-parish fair in Eunice was one of the top highlights of the year until the early 1950s. The Weekly Gazette reported on September 1, 1928, that the fair’s 100-page catalogue, listing all of the events and schedules for the fair, was available.

Evangeline Parish District Attorney Trent Brignac is looking into what appears to be an animal cruelty incident reported by a Eunice resident who indicated the incident may have occurred in Chataignier.

The Weekly Gazette has advertised many products and services through the years, but an advertisement that ran in the newspaper on September 15, 1928, had something very unusual to sell: the entire town of Meridian that had apparently lost it’s only employer.

TURKEY CREEK - The Turkey Creek Village Council, during the board’s August 19, regular meeting discussed the completion of Mayor Heather Cloud’s water system map project. Cloud stated that this project has been a passion of hers since she took office.
