The Evangeline Parish School Board received a brief overview of the proposed 2014-2015 fiscal year budget Wednesday, August 20, during the board’s regular meeting.

A political rally will be held Thursday, August 21, at Ville Platte’s Northside Civic Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and admission is free to the public. Residents are invited to visit the event to meet the local candidates and hear what they have to say.

State inmates are being transferred out of the Evangeline Parish Jail, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DOC).

Members of the McNeese State University women’s volleyball team cleaned the old Evangeline Bank building at the corner of Main and Court streets, on Tuesday, August 19. The building will house the Ville Platte Boys and Girls Club.

Mamou installed a sign on the front lawn of the town hall in late July. It now shows the temperature and welcomes visitors, but it will also be used to remind residents of the town -- or people passing through -- of upcoming events, like the Cajun Music Festival or football games.

Mamou is cracking down on abandoned, and often hazardous, structures on properties in the town. About a half dozen structures have been demolished so far. Twelve properties have been identified as abandoned.
