As the summer starts winding down and the first day of school approaches, millions of children and teens get ready to go back to school.

The Bible says in Proverbs 17:22 NIV, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Depression, anger and wrath, the negative emotions, are coming and stealing the joy of serving Jesus in many of us.

Hearing loss that occurs as we age is common. Hearing loss is the deterioration of hearing and deafness is profound hearing loss. It is estimated that one-third of people age 65 and over have some type of hearing loss.

Outings require more planning than most events you have within your community. It must be a safe environment for residents that are physically challenged. Another challenge of planning outings is the variation of residents’ stamina and physical limitations. Some like walking, others not so much.

Recreation and activity professionals often hear “I won’t be staying here very long.” In many care centers, the term “resident” is no longer an appropriate reference. The individuals who come into care centers for rehabilitation do not identify themselves as “residing” in the care center.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, July is National Blueberry Month! If any fruit deserves its own month of honorable recognition, the little blue beauty certainly does. Native to North America, blueberries are grown in 35 out of 50 states.
