Earl Fontenot honored for 47 years of service to SWCD

Former long-time chairman of the Evangeline Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Earl Fontenot, Jr., recently stepped down from the Soil and Water Conservation District Board after 47 years with that organization.

Possible severe thunderstorms Thursday

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening across our region. Currently, the threat for severe weather is very low (5%), but this will be reviewed this afternoon (March 26).

No one injured in accident Monday near Point Blue

The driver of this truck, owned by the City of Ville Platte, lost control when the truck’s front left tire had a blowout near Point Blue on LA 29, north of Chataignier on Monday, March 24. The driver was not injured in the one-vehicle accident.

Garage sales to be held Saturday, April 5

Ville Platte Christian Missions -- a nondenominational and non-pollitical civic organization -- is having a community garage sale Saturday, April 5, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Northside Civic Center.

VPPD officers undergo camera training

All Ville Platte police officers received new Veho Muvi minicameras they will wear at all times while on duty. The cameras can be set to record audio and video by being voice activated and have a wide angle of view. The user clips the minicamera onto the front of their shirts.

VP Housing Authority financially solid for now

The Ville Platte Housing Authority received good marks from accountant Shirley Vige during the board’s meeting Tuesday, March 11.
Vige stated the housing authority had approximately $700,000 in “cash on hand,” and net assets of approximately $6,800,000.
