Presently rain and/or sleet along with cold weather throughout Louisiana has created hazardous driving conditions. The wet precipitation on the roadways has formed into ice, causing very slick conditions.

All Evangeline Parish schools will be closed Friday, January 24, due to weather and athletic events scheduled will be rescheduled to a later date, according to the Evangeline Parish School Board's website.

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a winter storm advisory for our entire region. Winter precipitation is expected to mix in with light rain as early as tonight, especially in southeast Texas and parts of southwest and central Louisiana.

Students from schools all around Evangeline Parish came to Ville Platte High School to have their science projects judged on Wednesday, January 22.
Two of the science fair entries were judged to be the top place, earning trophies during the event.

As a result of the current weather conditions, that of it being extremely dry, Ryan Ardoin, Evangeline Parish Police Jury president, has ordered a parishwide burn ban on all private burning in the parish, including all municipalities. This order became effective at 4 p.m.

Long-time Ville Platte City Court Judge Donald Launey Jr. plans to retire at the end of January.
Launey has been city court judge for 23 years. His last six-yar term began in December 2008 and expires in December of this year.

The EndZone Sports Bar (6802 Pine Point Road) owned by Donald Ray Thomas and formerly a club called Shorty’s, became engulfed in flames at approximately 11:48 p.m. Tuesday, January 21. Eight units and 16 firefighters responded to the blaze, but the structure could not be saved.

Chataignier Mayor Jackie Thomas, during the monthly village council meeting January 20, urged residents of the community who are delinquent in paying for sewer service to pay for the service or have their water service cut in February.

The parade occurred on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20.
