Whitney Tate, the daughter of Robbie and Christy Tate has been selected to play with an elite travel softball team this summer. The Birmingham Thunderbolts based out of Birmingham, Alabama has selected Tate for their 14 and under squad.

The Evangeline Parish Basketball Tournament began Wednesday at Basile High School. Both the boys’ and girls’ brackets have been set. The tournament will last through Saturday.

Amateur boxer Brandon Arvie of Mamou continues down the road to his goal of competing in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, this time by becoming the Louisiana lightweight champion after winning a match in Rayne on Saturday, November 24.

Both Pine Prairie and Northwest know they have uphill climbs in District 5-3A. They are each looking for their first league win and both teams are sitting at 2-5 ovrall. Both are coming off of losses to neighborly opponents.

Ville Platte High has had its share of bumps and bruises this year and they have faced some very good competition. St. Charles Catholic was included in that group and the Comets slammed VPHS in week five. The Bulldogs had a ton of key injuries for that game, but this week, things are different.
