Police jury considers new enterprise zones

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury heard a proposal from Acadiana Economic Development (AED) officials that the parish identify areas eligible for consideration as “enterprise zones” where new industries could be awarded state sales tax breaks to locate facilities there.

Town of Mamou to conduct natural gas leak survey

The Mamou Town Council voted to award R&R Consultants, LLP, to conduct a survey of natural gas leaks in the town’s distribution system.
Mayor Ricky Fontenot said he asked for, and received, a proposal from the company to perform the survey.

Tournoi riders prepare, Evangeline Bank donates to 21 Club

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury named members of a new claims committee during its monthly committee meeting session Monday, October 7. The police jury then voted to award damages in one case, deny damages in a second and partially award damages in a third case.

Rosary to be held at Evangeline Parish Courthouse

Organizers of a “Rosary Crusade” are inviting the public to join them at the Evangeline Parish Courthouse in Ville Platte, and the St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou, on Saturday, October 12, for a rosary rally at noon in both locations.

First Baptist Church Cookoff set

The First Baptist Church in Ville Platte will be hosting a cookoff Sunday, November 3, at 815 Chicot Park Road. Cooking begins at 11:30 a.m.
New this year will be a kid’s cooking competition for children aged eight to 11 and 12 to 15.

Guilty verdict returned in armed robbery trial

An Evangeline Parish jury trial, which began Monday, September 30, ended Thursday afternoon with Isaac Thomas Jr., 25, of Ville Platte, found guilty of armed robbery, attempted manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
