National Certified Nursing Assistant Week is designed to recognize the vital role of the direct care workers, our nursing assistants. It makes sense that the quality of the relationships within the facility is about life satisfaction. Interactions with residents and staff occur on a daily basis.

During Nursing Home Week at Heritage Manor, we had a pet parade and pet therapy in-room visits for bedbound residents and dementia unit residents. It was a fun time for everyone involved. Incorporating animals with the residents provided opportunities for companionship and unconditional love.

This year, Memorial Day will be observed tomorrow, May 26. The idea for honoring fallen heroes on a specific day began after the Civil War. It was originally called Decoration Day, when people decorated the graves of soldiers with flowers.

Psalm 100:1-5 KJV reads, “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God. It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

After hearing the devastating news of a loved one being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, we begin our life-altering events.

Truth is powerful when it is argued. It is more powerful, however, when it is exhibited. People need not only to understand the argument, they need to see the benefits of the argument with their own eyes.

Here in Louisiana we grow some the best fruits and vegetables one can find due to the right type of soil and climate. And often times we have an abundance of crops. So what to do with the excess? Well just as your mother and grandmother did, Can them! But in a safe way…..

Jesus said, in Matthew 9:12, “They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.” It is obvious this is how Jesus wants us to view the unsaved, the cases that walked by our church doors.

National Nursing Home Week was created in 1967 and always begins on Mother’s Day. We celebrate by bringing some of our willing moms to the movies and letting them pick the feature of their choice. We also have a celebration of the most active mother by giving an award and party for all.

When God saw that we were lost and alone and dying without Him, He sent His son into the world so we would have the power to live through Him. In the same way, we need to love others in such a way that we empower them to live.
