The regional round of the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was not kind to the five Louisiana teams that were fortunate to get bids, as four of the five did not advance to the super regional round.

It wasn’t supposed to end this way for the UL-L baseball team.
But back-to-back loses, including a 3-1 defeat in the regional final to Arizona, caused an early exit for the Ragin’ Cajuns from the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

In a first for any Sunbelt Conference team, the number 17 ranked UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns became the only team in the history of the conference to win three conference tournament titles in a row, as the Cajuns shutout Georgia Southern 5-0 in the championship game on Sunday.

With the announcement of the 64 team field of the NCAA Division I baseball tournament on Monday, one could not help but notice that Louisiana is well represented.
Five teams from the state will have the opportunity to advance and try to make it to the ulimate prize; a trip to Ohmaha.

The LSU Lady Tigers showed just how far their program has advanced after rallying from a one game deficit in the Super Regionals to take a 2-1 series win over James Madison and advance to thier second Women’s College World Series in a row.

After fallling 9-0 in the first game Saturday, LSU Eunice responded with a 12-4 victory over Jones County Junior College to capture the 2016 NJCAA Divsion II softball championship.
