A rusty performance in the first half of the jamboree against Mamou this past Friday turned into a 21-0 win for the Basile Bearcats. According to Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand, that was something to be expected.

Jamboree games are not supposed to carry much weight. They are supposed to be a way to find out how far a team has come in a game-like situation. But, when that jamboree is played against a long time rival, jamborees become more than what is normally intended.

The two towns and schools are approximately 10 miles apart from each other. But, when it comes to Friday night football, both Ville Platte and Mamou share the same indisputable passion for their hometown team.

EUNICE — The dress rehearsal didn’t go as planned for St. Edmund as Sacred Heart of Ville Platte earned a 20-0 win over the Blue Jays in the finale of the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree.

Two things were proven for all of the teams participating in the 2016 Evangeline Parish Jamboree; there were flashes of good solid football and there is a lot of room for improvement.

As storms continued to roll through the area, the grounds remained highly saturated from recent historical flooding events that took place two weeks ago. Because of that, two parish schools were not able to get in their annual fall scrimmage.

For Chris Guillory, the transition from Pine Prairie High School’s head boy’s basketball coach to that same position at Northwest High was not a decision that was taken lightly. According to Guillory, the process took a lot of praying and some sleepless nights.
