The softball season has been extended for a pair of Evangeline Parish high school teams.
Pine Prairie High and Sacred Heart both earned berths in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association softball playoffs on Thursday.

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported six recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons:
•Charles K. Ardoin, 55, 325 Berdine St., Ville Platte, was arrested on March 10, 2016 for driving while intoxicated (first offense) and careless operation.

In a very close race, Brent Zackery was elected to serve as the Town of Mamou’s new police chief following a special election held Saturday, April 9. According to the unofficial results, Zackery defeated his opponent Katina Richard by a margin of 51 percent to 49 percent.

At Tuesday night’s Ville Platte Fire District No. 2 meeting the board was presented with more information on the new training officer position that Fire Chief Chris Harrison requested to be created to help alleviate some of the in office duties that the chief has been burdened with.
