Funeral services were held for Corey Scott Cavins, 23, of Lafayette, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 2 p.m., Wednesday. April 13. Burial followed in the Addison Johnson Cemetery in Turkey Creek.

Mary Lee Sarie

October 22, 1942 - April 7, 2016
Funeral services will be held for Mary Lee Sarie, 73, of Ville Platte, at St. Paul Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 16. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Betsy Ann Matthew

October 6, 1964 - April 8, 2016
Funeral services will be held for Betsy Ann Matthew, 51, of Mamou, at Great Hope Missionary Full Gospel Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Mamou.

Joycie Mae Alfred

April 3, 1960 - April 11, 2016
Funeral services will be held for Joycie Mae Alfred, 56, of Ville Platte, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 16. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Ville Platte.

Mamou Police Officer Arrested

Evangeline Parish Sheriff Eddie Soileau released a statement Monday regarding the recent arrest of Mamou Police Officer Christopher Ryan Lemaire.

Letter to the Editor

I am the aunt of Samuel Anderson (Sam) who was found guilty ... by a jury. Some say I should not have associated myself with such a person on national television. Ouch! After receiving strange looks by a few, it reminds me that there are judges outside of the legal system. You only heard a portion of my story from television, so let me present my case for the sake of my friends, others who were kind enough to speak with me directly and not misjudge me and for those who seek to live by God’s word.

The French game of Petanque is one that Al Guarisco said “has been kept a secret,” until now.
According to Al’s wife Arlette, Petanque is a game that “people play during vacation in France,” and it was while on vacation in her native country that her husband, who is from Thibodeaux, first discovered Petanque, and his desire to bring it back to the United States.

The public is invited to hear their guest speakers, John Ledoux and Margaret Briley, who will talk about the Orphan Train Museum and share some of the stories about the children who arrived in Evangeline Parish.
