HIGHLANDS, Texas - Funeral services will be held for Harold Gene Fuselier, 79, and Elaine Laverne Fuselier, 79, of Highlands, Texas, at the Sterling-White Funeral Home Chapel in Highlands, Texas, at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12. Burial will follow in the Sterling-White Cemetery.

Blake Lafleur

January 17, 1965 - March 10, 2016
Funeral services were held for Blake LaFleur, 51, at the Lone Pine Assembly of God Church in Bunkie at 3 p.m., Friday, March 11. Burial followed in the Griffin Hill Cemetery in Turkey Creek.

Gary “Keith” Ortego

March 3, 1948 - March 8, 2016
Funeral services will be held for Gary “Keith” Ortego, 68, of Houma, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.

James Stephens Montessori celebrates Dr. Seuss Week

To help celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the staff and students of James Stephens Montessori enjoyed a week-long celebration February 29-March 4, with various themes each day, including silly hat day on Monday, silly sock day on Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday and pajama day on Thursday.

EPAR representatives address WOW meeting

Members of Every Paw Animal Rescue (EPAR) were the guest speakers for the March 1 meeting of the Ville Platte Woodman of the World (WOW). Everyone enjoyed great company and meatball stew for supper.

Minister’s Corner: Saved by grace

Man, in the Old Testament times, was saved by looking forward to what was to be accomplished, and offered up sacrifices in faith. Since the Cross, in the dispensation of grace, man looks back to the Cross and is saved by accepting what has been accomplished there already.

Opelousas Catholic to host color run

Opelousas Catholic will hold a color run on Saturday, May 28, at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino. Registration includes a race bib, color packet, and t-shirt, but only if you sign up before May 13. You can pick up your items at the registration table the day of the event.
