The 2016 baseball season is drawing to a close and teams around the area are vying for the best possible playoff position.

The season continues for two of the four parish softball teams, as both Pine Prairie and Sacred Heart have secured spots in the 2016 LHSAA playoffs.

PINE PRAIRIE — It was a nail-biting, down to the wire contest Thursday afternoon when the Pine Prairie Panther baseball team hosted the Port Barre Red Devils in a district 5-3A showdown.

The Sacred Heart Trojan baseball team took to the diamond Thursday afternoon to take on the Opelousas Catholic Vikings in a crucial district game.

Pride and much needed power points were on the line, as the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers and the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans clashed in a non-district shoot out here Tuesday afternoon.

The only way to describe the last three district games for the Sacred Heart Trojans is: UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers clinched a share of the District 5-3A title on Friday with a win over the Port Barre Lady Devils. Pine Prairie are co-champions along with Church Point after each team defeated each other during the district season.

Coming into the district season, the Sacred Heart Trojan baseball team knew that it was going to be playing in one of the most competitive districts in Class 2A with the likes of Opelousas Catholic and Notre Dame on tap in District 5-2A.

The Sacred Heart Trojan baseball team and the Lady Trojan softball team both took key losses this past week.
For the Trojans, a Thursday one-run loss to Notre Dame put Sacred Heart at 0-2 early in the district season.
