Basile native appointed as new Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette

For the first time in its 98-year history, a native of Evangeline Parish will serve as Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette.

White and McCauley welcome son

BOY, Kyler Jonathan White was born February 8, 2016, at 4:04 p.m. at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice to Jonathan White of Ville Platte and Chasity McCauley of Pine Prairie, weighing seven pounds, 15.6 ounces.

Mr. Walsh, Miss Fontenot plan November nuptials

St. George Island beach in Florida provided the setting for a lovely afternoon ceremony on Saturday, November 21, 2015, uniting Miss Brooke Marie Fontenot and Mr. Richard Clinton Walsh in holy matrimony, with Minister Matt Stone officiating.

Joseph Reginald Semien

March 31, 1958 - February 13, 2016
A memorial service will be held for Joseph Reginald Semien, 57, of L’anse Grise, at a later date.
Mr. Semien died Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Belva Marie Soileau

November 16, 1942 - February 15, 2016
Funeral services were held for Belva Marie Soileau, 73, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 17. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.

Four of the five high schools earned berths in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s girls basketball playoffs on Monday.
In Class 3A, District 5-3A champion Ville Platte (19-8) earned the No. 14 seed and will host No. 19 Carroll in the opening round.
