After returning from a vacation at the beach, I am concerned about the number of adults who appear unconcerned about protecting their skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Adults serve as role models to children by the way they treat their skin. Remember to teach children the importance of using sunscreen and sunblocks when playing outdoors.

Convicted sex offender Randy P. Courville, 51, of Eunice will serve 10 years in federal prison.
Courville, a former U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs employee, was sentenced this week in federal court in Lafayette.
The sentence, imposed by Judge Tucker Melancon, has no condition of parole. Courville could have received up to 30 years under federal guidelines.

Edgar Waldon Sr. says he doesn't know what he's going to do, but he's grateful to be around to ponder it.
"It could have been a real catastrophe," said Waldon, 58, of the fire that consumed his home at 1692 Duchamp Rd., Cade area, Wednesday afternoon, July 16.

President Bush has exercised poor judgment but that is no excuse for not re-evaluating past mistakes and taking corrective action. Everyday there are news reports of more deaths. I think President Clinton would have asked the following questions and taken corrective action.

State. Rep. Mickey Guillory understands money for tennis court construction and expansion in Eunice fell victim to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s lumping a number of such projects together, but he’d like to have access to part of the money for something else.
And he thinks legislators returning to Baton Rouge for an attempt to override the veto would be a futile effort.
