CROWLEY – A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 at Duhon funeral home in Crowley for Winnie L. Boullion, 83, who died on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 1:45 p.m. at Lafayette General Hospital. Interment will be in Hanks Cemetery in Morse.

A city in ruins?

Let me begin by saying that I am a resident of the City of Eunice again,

I left this city for 17 years and traveled and worked from Los Angeles to New York,

Believe me when I say, “I’ve seen it all”, or so I thought.

After a series of twists and turns I found myself back here about three years ago and I am appalled at what I’ve seen and continue to see.

I have written as follows to Gov. Jindal in reference to the state’s pension debt and social security.

“I read with interest your news release entitled ‘A new era of fiscal discipline’ which was published on Thursday, June 19, 2008 in my local paper, The Eunice News.

“ In the fourth to last paragraph you say, ‘We [The Legislature and Governor] have also used $60 million [$60,000,000.00] to start paying down a portion of our state’s pension debt, helping to ensure that our teachers and state employees are able to retain the pension they have been promised.’ [Brackets and emphasis added].

A two-year-old run over when she attempted to jump from a moving truck without a driver is being treated in a Baton Rouge hospital.
