The Ville Platte and Mamou police department’s and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office, in a joint effort, arrested one individual who allegedly stole a vehicle from a local dealership in the 300 block of Main Street Thursday, July 3.

REDDELL - Funeral services were held for Walter Lee Fontenot, 49, of Mamou, at Antioch Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 5. Burial followed in the New Light Cemetery in Reddell.

The Ville Platte Municipal Civil Service board, during its meeting Monday, June 30, agreed to present its recently-adopted rules and regulations, including pay scale and job title listings, to the Ville Platte City Council for final approval.

PINE PRAIRIE - A special meeting of the Pine Prairie Village Council, originally scheduled for Thursday, July 3, had been cancelled and rescheduled, only to be cancelled again.

Early voting for the July 19, election began Saturday, July 5, with 144 absentee ballots being cast by 2:30 p.m.

The question of utility service to the Chamber of Commerce is not on official agenda for Tuesday night's City Council meeting, though under rules adopted last October it could be added.
