This week was “wash all the tennis shoes week.”

Got me to thinking of the time when tennis shoes hadn’t been invented yet.

There were some black high-top cloth shoes but very few people who wore them actually played tennis.

A Young Women’s Association of the First Baptist Church was organized at the home of Mrs. W.H. Kessler. Officers elected are Ruby Kessler, president; Ruth Aymond, vice president; Lela McManus, secretary-treasurer.

Wendy is half Weimaraner and half Lab. She is fixed and up to date on her rabies vaccination. She is very friendly and playful. She has been at the St. Landry Parish Animal Shelter for over a month and is in need of finding an adoptive home soon. Contact the shelter at 337-948-6184.

It appears discussion of what, if anything, to do about an incomplete project that leaves the city ineligible for block grants from the state is headed for City Council executive session.

With or without a discussion of the Chamber of Commerce’s utility service, Tuesday night’s City Council meeting could prove lively.

The Eunice Oilers and Jennings provided early fireworks Thursday night at the Bobcat Field as the two teams combined for 33 runs and 30 hits in American Legion District 7-East action.

LAKE CHARLES - The Eunice Junior Oilers were limited to one hit here Wednesday night at Legion Field as they dropped an 8-0 decision to St. Louis in District 7 American Legion Baseball action.

Funeral services for Jeffery J. Bihm, 38, will be held on Sunday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at Quirk & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in St. Louis Cemetery.

Bihm died on Thursday, July 3, 2008.
