During its meeting Wednesday, June 25, the Evangeline Parish Sales/Use Tax Commission adopted a proposed budget for 2008/2009.

Chamber turns to neighbor for water

Water service to the Chamber of Commerce office was interrupted Tuesday morning on instructions of Mayor Bob Morris.

By mid-afternoon, Chamber officials had made arrangements to draw water from nearby G&H Supply and had hooked up about 200 feet of 5/8-inch garden hose to supply the office water.

Erath receives Lady Liberty just before the 4th

ERATH - There is a new lady in Erath who catches everyone’s attention.

She stands 11 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds. This new lady is not a new exchange student from Russia imported to play basketball for the Lady Bobcat basketball team.

Abbeville business burglarized

ABBEVILLE - On Friday, June 27 at 4 a.m. the Abbeville Police Department received a call that an Abbeville business had been burglarized by forcible entry.

Maude’s, located at 1305 Martin Luther King Jr. Street, is a neighborhood grocery that serves the immediate area.

Disclosure requirements for boards and commissions

It won’t affect everyone, but for the people who sit on state boards or commissions, even on a voluntary basis will be required to report to the government a variety of information under the new ethics laws adopted during the regular legislative session and signed by Gov. Jindal.

Suzanne Touchet loses battle with cancer

ERATH - Suzanne Touchet, a former Erath High teacher, lost her two-year battle with cancer Monday at 1:35 p.m.

She was 39 years old and lived in Erath at the time of her death.

Services are pending and David’s Funeral Home in Erath is handling the arrangements.

Mary "Lou" Bourgeois

JENNINGS – Mary “Lou” Bourgeois, 67, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at her Jennings residence.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Jennings.

Brenda Haynes-Holden

CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 for Brenda Haynes-Holden, 64, who died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Camelot Place.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the funeral home, starting at noon.
