IOTA - A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Iota for Joetta Marie Miller, 49, who passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at her residence in Iota. Interment will take place in the St. Joseph Cemetery with Father Mike Polson officiating.

When the Speaker of the House of Representatives took the microphone last week in support of a 300% pay raise for legislators in Louisiana, one of his arguments was that the job had become full time.  “It is a misconception that this is a part-time job,” he told his colleagues.  So the question is simply this.  Should Louisiana, or for that matter any state, have a full-time state legislature?  I say no.

Any public pension cutbacks?

I have written as follows to Gov. Jindal in reference to the state’s pension debt and social security.

“I read with interest your news release entitled ‘A new era of fiscal discipline’ which was published on Thursday, June 19, 2008 in my local paper, The Eunice News.

“ In the fourth to last paragraph you say, ‘We [The Legislature and Governor] have also used $60 million [$60,000,000.00] to start paying down a portion of our state’s pension debt, helping to ensure that our teachers and state employees are able to retain the pension they have been promised.’ [Brackets and emphasis added].

Well. It looks like Governor Jindal is in a heap of trouble.

Three Eunice baseball players were named to the Louisiana Baseball Coaches All-State teams.

At the present time, they represent seven churches in the West Crowley Community. The accompanying churches include Bethel CME, Rev. George R. Chretian; Greater Mt. Zion Baptist (Ambassador Ministries), Rev. Keith N. Matthews; Israelite Baptist, Rev. Ivan J. Lewis; Jerusalem Baptist, Rev.

The St. Joseph Baptist Church hosted its annual Vacation Bible School the week of Monday, June 9 through Friday, June 13. The week long event featured arts and crafts as well as music. The 2008 theme was “Back to Basic.”
