LAKE CHARLES - Dr. Jeanne Daboval, provost and vice president of academic affairs at McNeese State University, conferred degrees on 690 graduates at the university’s spring commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Burton Coliseum.

I had to shake my head and refocus my eyes when I read the following words from a news story: “House Democrats responded to President Bush’s call for Congress to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling….Among other things, the Democrats called for government to own refineries so it could better control the flow of the oil supply.”

Audrey Hills coaxes Cowboy, an English bulldog, out of the back of the vehicle Thursday for his annual rabies vaccination. The St. Landry Health Unit was providing free shots for dogs and cats during a clinic at City Hall.

Cowboy, a former show dog, is 18 months old.

Funeral services were held for Gregory Michael Savoy Jr., 47, of Oakdale, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25. A private burial followed.
