GUEYDAN – Services for Frederick “Fred” John Zaunbrecher, 80, were held Monday, June 16, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan with Father Mitchell Guidry officiating. He died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his Gueydan residence.

CROWLEY – Sheriff Wayne Melancon will officially be sworn in by District Judge Kristian Earles to begin his second term on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 1 p.m.

PINEVILLE – From mid-April until the end of May, Cleco employees, along with local businesses, brought in more than 1,000 fans through Cleco’s fan drive.

CROWLEY – The rise in gas prices that has been causing concern throughout the country is not just a problem for motorists. Several area businesses are feeling the pinch and which in turn is causing them to raise their prices.

Juneteenth may not be a greeting card holiday, but the importance to millions of people across the country cannot be discounted.

The day will be celebrated in Vermilion Parish at McKinley Scott Park in Kaplan on Saturday and Sunday.

The 2007 audit of the Vermilion Parish Police Jury was presented by Rob Carter of the local accounting firm, Kolder, Champagne, Slaven and Company, the highlights of the findings were given to the jury at the Finance Committee meeting.

During a recent trip to New Orleans for the 72nd Greater New Orleans Floral  Trail Festival, International Rice Festival Queen Amber Thibodeaux  along with visiting queens attending Sunday Mass at St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.

The Iota High School class of 1944 held its class reunion on Saturday, June 7 from 4-8 p.m. at Fezzo’s Restaurant in Crowley.

Much visiting and reminiscing was done and updates of family members and friends were given while members of the class had a dutch treat meal and drinks.
