I recently wrote an article about travel writers who visited Vermilion Parish, and their impressions of the area. After reading quotes about their adventures, it occurred to me that I didn’t know as much as I thought I did about where I lived.

There is much talk these days of economic development, zoning laws and regulatory commissions, but there is one entity, created in 1954 by an act of the legislature that has been enacting all of these items -- Abbeville Harbor and Terminal.

In just over one month in operation, Vermilion residents brought more than 6,500 pounds of recycling materials to the designated recycling centers around the parish.
