Mayor says DEQ not antagonistic

Mayor Bob Morris said his meeting Thursday with DEQ regarding the wastewater plant was not antagonistic.

“Obviously what they were told was working wasn’t, but they understood we are determined to fix it now,” Morris said.

Like Father, like son

A dream has come true for both father and son.

Dr. Tim Stewart Fontenot has officially begun his dentistry career alongside his father, Dr. Tim Paul Fontenot.

The son graduated on May 15 from LSU Dental School in New Orleans. He is a 1998 St. Edmund graduate and attended LSUE and LSU in Baton Rouge.

Breaux Bridge — Danielle Renee Hebert received a Certificate of Achievement and a check for $500 from the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce recently.

Byron “Tank” Minor has announced his candidacy for City Council from Ward 2 in the October primary. He has been involved in a number of community civic activities.

Dale Soileau has announced his candidacy for City Council from Ward 4. He previously served two years, 1996-98.

Freddie Fruge, Jr. of Eunice and Lauren Fontenot of Ville Platte announce the birth of their daughter, Vivian Claire Fruge, born on June 5 at the Acadian Medical Center weighing 7 pounds and 6 ounces.

No Smoking - it's the law

Alderwoman Marguerite Fruge-Simpson was ready to introduce an ordinance Tuesday night penalizing smoking in city facilities and vehicles but relented when told state law already forbids it.

Her message to all and sundry: Obey the law or she’ll be back.

Double-ring evening ceremony unites couple

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Eunice served as the setting for the evening, double ring, nuptial mass ceremony uniting Crystal Campbell and Jason Courville in holy matrimony. The ceremony was held on April 25 at 7 p.m.

Parents of the bride are Andrea Wiggins of Pineville and Clayton Campbell of Libuse, La.; and parents of the groom are Timothy and Debra Courville of Basile. Presiding over the ceremony was Father Tom Voorhies.

Chief doubts he can merge job functions

Mayor Bob Morris suggested at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting that Police Chief Gary Fontenot not fill an upcoming vacancy as a means of gaining additional funding for departmental pay.

Fontenot said he is willing to consider the possibility but doesn’t think it can be done.

Liberty schedules Louisiana Tradition June 21

Errol Jenkins, pictured, & Louisiana Tradition and Bufford Gallery & the Jolly Playboys will perform Saturday, June 21 at The "Rendez-vous des Cajuns" Cajun Music Radio & TV Show at the Liberty Theate.

The show starts at 6 p.m. and the box office opens at 4 p.m.
