ABBEVILLE - On Friday, June 6, the board of the Allume’ Society in Abbeville secured the deed for the historic Frank’s Theatre located on Jefferson Street.

The group has worked for over a year to raise the necessary funds to secure the building and is now making plans to renovate it.

The City Council on Tuesday night tabled the proposed 2008-09 budget until it can prepare and consider amendments, including one stripping a pay raise for Mayor Bob Morris from the document.

COURTHOUSE MOVES . . .

As reported in recent weeks, construction should be starting soon on the courthouse annex to be located on the lot behind the courthouse (across St. Martin Street from the Law Enforcement Center/Jail).

It is amazing how seriously the media are taking Senator Barack Obama’s latest statement about the latest racist rant from the pulpit of the church he has attended for 20 years. But neither that statement nor the apology for his rant by Father Michael Pfleger really matters, one way or the other.

The water in Belle River continues to fall, but very slowly. It’s still inky black, especially viewed from the bridge.

Willis Boudreaux informed me that if I can’t buy a horse, his friend has a bourriquet (donkey) I can have. Willis is a true friend and always looking out for me.

Summer vacation can be too much of a good thing. Grown-ups know this and have fashioned all sorts of diversions for the youngsters of St. Martin Parish to gainfully while away what, to a kid, might seem like an eternity before school starts again.
