Evangeline Parish was again well represented at LSU in Baton Rouge for the 103rd Annual 4-H University. Thirty-four students from the parish went in all, and 14 came back placing at the state level in their competitions.

On July 6, 2017, at approximately 4:10 a.m., Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/Lafayette Field Office (LSP LFO) responded to a shooting involving an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s deputy in the Mamou area.

The landscape of southern Evangeline Parish was once dominated by Acadian and Creole cultures. This was seen particularly in the type of houses that dotted the landscape. Over the years; though, most of this culture has died off.

The Ville Platte City council held a special meeting on Thursday, June 29, 2017 to amend its 2016-2017 budget, as well as approve the city’s budget for the year beginning July 1, 2017 and ending June 30, 2018.

The Creole heritage of the area will again be celebrated during the 2017 Creole Families’ Bastille Day Heritage Festival and Commemorative Mass. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Northside Civic Center Pavilion in Ville Platte.

VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for Virginia Mills Fontenot, 91, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 in the LaVille Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery. Deacon Chuck Ortego will officiate.

VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for Mr. Ambrose Fontenot, 92, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Chapel in Belaire Cove with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Ville Platte. Fr. Glodd will officiate.
