Ja'Kylin Jeantez Jabbar Manley, the son of Joekoby Manley and Kyra Simon of Ville Platte, celebrated his ninth birthday Saturday, January 3, 2015, with a party at Sky Zone in Lafayette. The party theme was "Lego."

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its first meeting of the new year Wednesday, January 7, at the Sacred Heart meeting room, with Regent Barbara Delafosse presiding. The weather was cold, so only 14 members attended.

The 2015 Evangeline Parish Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery Contest was a big success! The contest was held Wednesday, January 7, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Twenty-six dishes were entered in the Rice and Sweet Potato Contests.

Mona Thomas was named Employee of the Month for January at Heritage Manor, and Gary Landreneau was named Resident of the Month. Thomas has been employed with Heritage Manor for 22 years and is currently the housekeeping/laundry supervisor.

PRODUCTION A SUCCESS - Troupe d’Evangeline presented its holiday production “A Christmas Dinner” Tuesday evening December 16, at the Northside Civic Center. The performers did a wonderful job and the crowd enjoyed the production directed by Janice Fontenot.

VFW Post #3803 presented Heritage Manor Activity Director Patricia Duplechin with the organization’s annual donation for resident bingo games during the recent Christmas party hosted by the group.

VFW Post #3803 and the Ladies’ Auxiliary prepared the monthly donated barbecue meal for residents of Heritage Manor on December 10. They also presented the organization’s annual donation for resident bingo games for the upcoming year.
