The First Annual Mamou Cajun Music Festival Pageant will be held Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Mamou Recreation Center beginning at 1 p.m. Entry fee for contestants ages newborn to 12 is $35, and entry fee for Jr., Teen and Miss contestants (ages 13-22) is $55.

On Tuesday, August 5, Troupe d’Evangeline hosted its latest performance at the Northside Civic Center. The performance of “The Princess and the Pea,” directed by Travis Fontenot, featured a wonderful cast and the crowd enjoyed the performance. In the first photo, the cast is shown.

Margaret Bourgeois Welsh, a native of Victoria Harbour, Ontario, Canada, will celebrate her 100th birthday today, August 14. Currently, she is a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home here in Ville Platte.

Shantell Berry was named Employee of the Month for August at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, and Eleanor Johnson was named Resident of the Month. Berry has been employed with Heritage Manor as an LPN for one-and-a-half years. She and her husband, Freddie, have two children.
