Parish athletes earn spots at state track meet

Four parish athletes have qualified for the LHSAA State Track and Field Meet to take place this coming Thursday and Friday in Baton Rouge. The meet will be held at Bernie Moore Track on the LSU campus.

Lady Trojans drop heartbreaker in quarterfinals

Unbelievable. Amazing. Gut wrenching. Simply put, WOW! These are only a few words that could possibly describe the quarterfinal playoff marathon between the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans and the Mangham Lady Dragons.

If the Sacred Heart Trojans could have wished for the perfect bi-district playoff game, they probably would have wished for a mistake free game with plenty of offense and hopefully a chance to get some playing time for some of their bench players. Wish granted.

Given the way that the Pine Prairie Panthers scraped and clawed their way through the regular and district seasons, it would stand to reason that they would do the same against the Notre Dame Pioneers in their first round playoff matchup on Friday.

Demons bow out of playoffs at Oak Grove

An up and down baseball season for Mamou came to an end on Friday, as the Demons exited the class 2A playoffs with a 9-4 loss to Oak Grove. Mamou began the season 2-10. However, once district play began, the Demons evened things out to go 7-7 the rest of the way.

For the second time in the last four years the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans have earned a spot at the LHSAA state softball tournament, also known as the Fastpitch 56 Tournament, in Sulphur.

Three of the four Evangeline Parish Baseball teams have advanced to the 2015 LHSAA baseball playoffs. Sacred Heart, Pine Prairie and Mamou have all earned spots in their respective brackets and will begin play this week.

Ville Platte track teams sweep district crowns

The Ville Platte High boys and girls track teams swept the district track championships last Wednesday at Church Point. The boys took the title scoring 143 points, 33 points more than the second place team Livonia. The girls edged out Port Barre by a four point margin 152-148 to take the crown.

Parish fitness meet team competes at state

The Evangeline Parish elementary fitness meet team competed at the state competition this past Saturday in Baton Rouge at the Bernie Moore Indoor Track Facility on the campus of LSU. The team participated in a number of events throughout the day and placed fourth overall in the state.
