The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish softball teams.
Sacred Heart
vs. False River

In their first district game of the season, the Sacred Heart Trojans hosted the False River Gators. The Trojans came into the game riding a fourteen game win streak. Sacred Heart looked to not only extend their win streak, but more importantly to get a jump in the district standings.

On Tuesday, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans hosted the False River Lady Gators in a district 5-1A matchup. Coming into the game the Lady Trojans were two games out of first place and needed a win to keep pace with league leader Catholic of Pointe Coupee.

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojan eighth grade softball team competed in the Louisiana Jr. High Softball Tournament at University of Louisiana-Monroe on March 27 and 28. The Lady Trojans went 4-0-1 in the tournament to capture the championship title.

The newest concept in high school softball and baseball is the playing of the same team twice in a week for district competition. With that said, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans tangled with district foe St. Ed’s on Monday and again on Wednesday.

Coming into Tuesday’s game against Opelousas Catholic, the Sacred Heart Trojans were riding a 12 game winning streak. The Trojans knew that it would take a total team effort to defeat 2A powerhouse Opelousas Catholic to continue that streak.

A tight game became a runaway for the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans on Tuesday afternoon in Eunice. The Lady Trojans blew open a 4-2 game, scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh, to take a 13-5 win over the St. Ed’s Lady Blue Jays.
