Local teen commits suicide in N.O. jail

Jaquin Thomas, a former junior high student at Ville Platte High, apparently committed suicide in his Orleans Parish jail cell on Monday night.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on Tuesday, October 18.

Veteran’s plaque stolen from parish cemetery

An act of theft has recently occured at Leon Manuel Cemetery in Evangeline Parish.
J.D. Soileau said, “Last Saturday I noticed that someone had stolen a military man’s plaque from his grave.”

9-1-1 Board gets generator update

Evangeline Parish 9-1-1 Director Liz Hill provided an update on the facility’s generator at The Industrial Park in Ville Platte.
The generator is in and in place where it’s supposed to be,” Hill said. “We are on the waiting list for the plumbing and the electricians are also aware.”
