The Mamou Town Council Wednesday night appointed Kelly Tate as new town magistrate after Timmy J. Fontenot stepped down from the position. Mayor Ricky Fontenot thanked retired Judge Tom Fusilier for serving in the interim. “He did a very good job,” Fontenot said.

Woman jailed for bringing contraband into prison

The Pine Prairie Police Department recently arrested Bertha Alvarado for bringing contraband into the Pine Prairie Correctional Center.
According to the PPPD, Officer Benjamin Bordelon was dispatched to the prison facility on April 2, 2017 in reference to this incident.
