Going into Friday night’s game against the Northwest Raiders, the Ville Platte Bulldogs were needing a win for two purposes; a chance to create a tie for the district championship and an increase in power points.

Having been to the Top 28 tournament two of the last three years, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs know that you have to at least win your first playoff game. The Lady Bulldogs started slow, but ramped up their game in the second half to dominate the Abbeville Lady Wildcats 66-51.

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to Baton Rouge on Thursday hoping to upset the Lady Chargers of Madison Prep and score a first round playoff win. The Lady Trojans have not gone beyond the bi-district round of the playoffs in some time.

The Mamou Lady Demons hosted the opening round of the basketball playoffs Thursday night as the Vikings came North by Northeast. The theme of the first half was the Demons forcing turnovers, but they could not capitalize as the ball rattled off the rim.

To get into the post-season, the Mamou Demons needed to finish the regular season with a win over the Kinder Yellow Jackets on Saturday night. The Demons found themselves at number 35 in the power ratings, having to be in the top 32 in order to continue their season.

The brackets are made and the games are set for the 2015 LHSAA girl’s basketball playoffs. Evangeline Parish is well represented in this year’s chase for the championship. In class 3A the Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs won the district championship and grabbed the number two seed.

It is hard to believe but the 2015 LHSAA softball season is here. The four parish schools that play softball will get their softball campaigns going this weekend as they each will participate in a jamboree or scrimmage.

A win over the Church Point Bears on Friday was something the Ville Platte Bulldogs needed in order to stay in contention for the district championship. Ville Platte came into the game one game out of first place behind league leader Pine Prairie.

On Friday night, the Pine Prairie Panthers hosted the Livonia Wildcats with one thing on their mind; win and stay on top of the district 5-3A standings. The Panthers came into the game with a one-game advantage over the Ville Platte Bulldogs in the race for the 2015 district championship.
