When the Mamou Demons traveled to Lake Arthur on Thursday, they knew one important fact; this was a must win if they were to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Green Demons came into the key 4-2A district game ranked number 36 in the current power ratings.

Mamou High School honored the most prolific basketball player in their history on Friday night as Gwen Slaughter had her jersey retired during halftime of the Lady Demon basketball game. Slaughter played for the Lady Demons from 1996 to 1999.

In a battle of district 4-2A leaders, the Mamou Lady Demons hit the road to take on the Lake Arthur Lady Tigers Thursday night. Mamou entered the game trailing Lake Arthur by one game in the district standings, after losing an earlier contest to the Lady Tigers.

Looking to stay one game out of first place in the district 5-3A race, the Ville Platte Bulldogs needed a statement game against the Livonia Wildcats. Ville Platte jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening period and never looked back.

On senior night, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs hosted the Livonia Lady Wildcats in the hopes of finishing the district 5-3A season with a perfect record. Ville Platte came into the game already crowned the district champions for the second year in a row.

A win on the last game of the season for the Sacred Heart would top off a pretty successful year for the Trojans. Sacred Heart came into the game ranked number 43 in the power rankings, so a playoff spot did not seem to be in the cards.

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans ended the regular season hosting the St.Ed’s Lady Blue Jays. A win would bolster and hopefully increase the Sacred Heart power rating before the announcement of the playoff brackets.

The Mamou High Demons and Lady Demons played host to Vinton High School on Tuesday night in district play. The Lady Demons were able to keep pace with league leading Lake Arthur as they destroyed the Lady Lions 58-9. The Demons were outmatched from the start and took the 77-43 loss.

As the season winds down for the Evangeline Parish lady basketball teams, a playoff berth will be in the cards for most of those squads. According to the latest power rankings, the parish will be well represented in the 2015 LHSAA post-season.

Coming into the game against the Ville Platte Bulldogs on Friday, the Pine Prairie Panthers were a perfect 6-0 in district and had a two-game lead on every other team. For the Bulldogs, a win would pull the Panthers to within striking distance and keep themselves in the district title hunt.
