Mamou Demons slip past Lake Arthur Tigers

When the Mamou Demons traveled to Lake Arthur on Thursday, they knew one important fact; this was a must win if they were to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Green Demons came into the key 4-2A district game ranked number 36 in the current power ratings.

Slaughter honored with jersey retirement

Mamou High School honored the most prolific basketball player in their history on Friday night as Gwen Slaughter had her jersey retired during halftime of the Lady Demon basketball game. Slaughter played for the Lady Demons from 1996 to 1999.

The Mamou High Demons and Lady Demons played host to Vinton High School on Tuesday night in district play. The Lady Demons were able to keep pace with league leading Lake Arthur as they destroyed the Lady Lions 58-9. The Demons were outmatched from the start and took the 77-43 loss.

As the season winds down for the Evangeline Parish lady basketball teams, a playoff berth will be in the cards for most of those squads. According to the latest power rankings, the parish will be well represented in the 2015 LHSAA post-season.

Bulldogs hand Panthers first district loss

Coming into the game against the Ville Platte Bulldogs on Friday, the Pine Prairie Panthers were a perfect 6-0 in district and had a two-game lead on every other team. For the Bulldogs, a win would pull the Panthers to within striking distance and keep themselves in the district title hunt.
