Magnolia Garden Club reviews plans for 2014

On January 13, the Magnolia Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the home of Lynn Landreneau with President Hazel Fontenot presiding. The opening ceremony included the Pledge of Allegiance led by Landreneau and the Club Collect read by Theresa Attales.

4-H Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery winners announced

The 2014 Evangeline Parish Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery Contest was a big success! The contest was held Wednesday, January 8th at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Twenty-six dishes were entered in the Rice and Sweet Potato Contests.

Employee and Resident of the Month announced

Leslie Ortego was named Employee of the Month for January at Heritage Manor, and Riley Gallow was named Resident of the Month. Ortego has been employed with the facility as an LPN for 14 years and is the mother of three children and one step-daughter.

Resident Council appointed

Heritage Manor’s new Resident Council president for 2014 is Pershing “Jack” Deville, left, and vice president is Gary Landreneau.

Ja'Kylin Jeantez Jabbar Manley, the son of Joekoby Manley and Kyra Simon of Ville Platte, celebrated his eighth birthday with a party at home with his family on Friday, January 3, 2014. Grandparents are Nathaniel and Regina Thomas of Ville Platte and Joe Manley of Twin City, Georgia.

The annual 4-H Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery Contest is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, 2014. This contest is sponsored by the Evangeline Parish Rice Growers Association, E & L Produce and the LSU AgCenter.
