Contest winners announced

Mamou Elementary School recently recognized the following students for being the top sellers in the school’s 2013-2014 #1 fundraiser. First place winners were awarded $50 each, and second place winners received $25 each. Pictured in front is $100 drawing winner Brian Manuel.

4-H Egg, Poultry and Pecan Cookery winners announced

The Evangeline Parish 4-H Fall Food Fest was held on Monday, November 25, in the Sacred Heart Elementary Gymnasium. Forty-one egg, poultry and pecan dishes were awarded blue, red or white ribbons.

What really happens to that sandwich you eat after you swallow it? Students at Mamou Elementary School will find out as they tour the Louisiana Body Walk exhibit on Wednesday, December 4th, and Pine Prairie Elementary School on Thursday, December 5th.

Chretien poses with Stanley Cup

Aniece L. Smith, better known as Linda Chretien, along with Father Scott Donahue, CEO of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, recently were given an enormous opportunity to pose with the NHL (National Hockey League) Stanley Cup trophy. The Stanley Cup was won by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month recognized

November is declared National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Citizen’s are encouraged to increase their understanding of care at the end of life.

Hickerson to celebrate 90th birthday

Maxine T. Hickerson, a retired school teacher of 33 and a half years, will be celebrating her 90th birthday with an open house party at her home on Saturday, November 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
