VPPD Arrest Reports

The Ville Platte Police Department reported nine recent bookings into the city jail. Arrested were the following persons:
• Ruby Thomas, 1802 Kembo St., Ville Platte, was arrested on August 1, 2016 for improper supervision of a minor. Thomas was released from jail on a $250.00 bond.

A grave situation

In the sweltering humidity of a Monday afternoon in Evangeline Parish, Joseph Alfred waded slowly through the still standing water, and now sinking mud, that had engulfed the old cemetery down on Shuff Road.

Parish added to list of disaster areas

Evangeline Parish has been added to the list parishes declared as a major disaster.

Storms claimed zero lives in parish

Due to the joint efforts of local law enforcement agencies-first responders, Evangeline Parish 9-1-1, as well as city and village leaders-employees, the historic flood that swept through the parish did not claim anyone’s life.

Hamlin retiring

Evangeline Parish Superintendent Toni Hamlin at Wednesday night’s board meeting announced that it was time for her to retire and leave the position that she has held for nearly 10 years.
In her closing comments, Hamlin read a letter that she had written to the board.

Oil man McDaniel passes away at 94

Friends and family gathered at Friendship Baptist Church on Tuesday to remember the life of 94-year-old oil tycoon Robert “Bob” McDaniel, who passed away on Sunday.

Prisoners could be sent back

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury set a budget of $20,000 a month to pay for prisoners being housed outside of the parish, but as the number of inmates has risen the police jury is now finding themselves unable to pay all of their bills for inmate housing, which is required of them by law.

Trial date set for Turkey Creek murder case
