Mamou girls play like Syracuse against Pine Prairie Panthers

On this the Twelfth Night when most people look for the baby in a king cake, the Mamou Lady Demons with a record of 13-6 went into Pine Prairie looking for a win. Coach Mark Temple employed a Syracuse defense in the game that would have given a Geno Auriemma coached team fits.

Sacred Heart dismantles St. Joe’s Eagles Friday

The Sacred Heart Trojans were looking to get back in the win column when they faced off against St. Joe’s Eagles on Friday in a non-district contest. The Trojans started off slow, but began to open the game up in the second quarter, defeating the Eagles by a score of 59-25.

Lady Trojans use dominant defense in win Friday

It is a given that if a team wishes to earn a victory, that team must either outscore the other team or play dominating defense. The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans did both in a 61-29 win over the St. Joe’s Lady Eagles on Friday.

Ville Platte defeats Jennings in non-district tilt

Ville Platte High took on the Jennings High Bulldogs in a home non-district contest on Friday night. Ville Platte used a 30-point final period to pull away from Jennings and take the 87-74 win.

Jones named to Honorable Mention All-SLC team

Former Ville Platte High Bulldog standout and current Northwestern Demon, Cody Jones, has earned a place on the Honorable Mention list as an All-Southland Conference performer. The Demon all-purpose player hauled in 29 receptions for 353 yards and six touchdowns.

Ville Platte competes in Holiday Tournament

The Ville Platte High Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs took to the hardwood starting the day after Christmas to participate in the Northwest High School Holiday Tournament. This annual tournament attracts some of the better competition around the state.

The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs are now 12-3 on the season after dropping two of their last three contests. The Lady Bulldogs finished the Sam Houston Tournament, going 1-1 on Saturday. Ville Platte then traveled to Walker to battle the Lady Wildcats.

Lady Trojans suffer loss to Lady Eagles Monday

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans dug themselves a hole in the first quarter that they could not overcome in a 52-31 loss at home to the Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles on Monday night. Vermilion Catholic used a 16 point advantage in the opening period and never looked back.
