The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs hosted the Westminster Lady Crusaders in a non-district tilt here Monday night. The Lady Bulldogs moved out to a 10 point advantage in the first quarter and were never threatened in a 64-36 win.

The Sacred Heart Trojan and Lady Trojan basketball teams hosted the Menard Eagles on Monday night in non-district play. The Lady Trojans shot only 13 percent from the field in a 36-31 loss. The Trojans hit key free throws down the stretch to put away the Eagles 64-50.

The Sacred Heart Turkey Tournament concluded on Wednesday after three days of non-stop action. The Mamou Lady Demons were crowned champions of the girl’s bracket, while the Crowley Gents were able to secure first place in the boy’s bracket. Here are Wednesday’s game capsules.

The Basile Bearcats traveled to Kentwood on Friday to try and exact some revenge on the Kangaroos in a class 1A quarterfinal playoff game. The Kangaroos had eliminated the Bearcats the last two years in this same quarterfinal round.

If it was not amazing enough that the Basile Bearcats have now made it to the quarterfinals of the LHSAA playoffs three years in a row, what may be more amazing is that their opponent will be the same for three years in a row; the Kentwood Kangaroos.

What is the formula for a regional playoff win? If you ask the Basile Bearcats, they would tell you to dominate the game on the ground and play bend-but-don’t-break defense. The Bearcats did both Friday night, as they rolled to a 38-13 win over the LaSalle Tigers.
