The Evangeline Parish Jamboree will kick off the season for four of the parish gridiron teams Friday night. The jamboree rotation brings it to Ville Platte High School for 2014. The first game will start at 6:00 and will pit the Basile Bearcats against the Pine Prairie Panthers.

With a solid performance in their scrimmage on Friday against Houma Christian, the Sacred Heart Trojans are ready to climb back into action. They will get their chance tomorrow night against Central Catholic of Morgan City in the Kiwana’s Jamboree.

All five parish gridiron squads participated in their annual fall scrimmage on Thursday and Friday. Scrimmages are used as tools by the coaches to evaluate their starters as well as any other players that may get playing time.

New football seasons usually bring changes. No one expected that all five parish high schools would have one major change in common. For probably the first time in Evangeline Parish gridiron history, every high school football program will have new head coaches.

The Louisiana Dixie Majors exited the World Series Tournament on Tuesday after a 12-7 loss to South Carolina. It was the second loss to South Carolina in the tournament for Louisiana after a 3-2 defeat on Saturday.

The Louisiana Dixie Youth All-Stars suffered only their second defeat of the season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to South Carolina in the World Series on Saturday. Louisiana held South Carolina to only one hit in the game.

The 8 and under PONY national runner up trophy now resides in Ville Platte. The 2014 Ville Platte Pinto All Stars battled their way to the National Championship game, only to fall to the Rayne All Stars by a score of 19-18.

The Mamou eight year-old all-stars captured the Regional World Series on July 28 with a thrilling 15-14 victory over Minden, LA. It was the sixth game for Mamou in three days. They began play on Saturday with a hard fought 8-3 win over Longview, TX.

The Ville Platte 8u All Stars did well over the summer with an overall record of 20-4, outscoring opponents 321-166. In the Mamou PONY Warmup Tournament, Ville Platte was 4-1.
