Ville Platte and Shreveport worked hard to put themselves in a position to win the 2014 Louisiana State Championship at the AAA (Super 10's) level. In the best of three series, Ville Platte took the first game, while Shreveport found a way to win the second contest.

Back in September, Thomas Scully predicted this year’s Ville Platte Dixie Majors Team would go to the World Series in Lexington, South Carolina. At the time, Scully was not even the head coach of the group. He just had a feeling.

In a best of three series, it is hard for a coaching staff to prepare for game three, also known as the “if necessary” game. No coach wants that game to take place. You’d prefer to win the first two and move on.

When Ville Platte got to the Wall Pontiff Playground in Metairie, they did not waste much time in letting the locals know they were there for business and not play. The VP Majors met the competition head on and that did not let up.

In game one of the Super Regionals, Ville Platte met a very talented Gonzales team. The VP boys took a 13-4 win, but took some early sweating to get it done.

The Mamou Elite Eight-year-olds had to come out at least sixth in the Dixie Youth State Pitching Machine Tournament in order to advance to the World Series. With an overall record of 17-1, the Mamou youngsters did just that and placed fifth at the event in Pineville.

The Mamou Eight and Under All-Stars placed third in the Regional Tournament in Youngsville.

With all the rain that moved through the New Orleans and Lafayette area, the Dixie Youth Regionals were postponed to later in the weekend.
The Ville Platte Super 10’s were moved to play Saturday morning, rather than Friday at 1 p.m.

Its been a while since Ville Platte has made it big at the Dixie Youth Majors level. In fact, the local teams have had rough roads in the regional since the implementation of the best of three state championship series that follows the regional.

The last time Ville Platte won the Super 10’s regional was just two years ago. That group is now playing at the Majors level and looking to win that regional. The VP Super 10’s lost in the semi-finals last season in Sulphur, but the 2014 group has yet to taste defeat.
