In Mamou, several teams collided last weekend in Mamou in order to earn a good seed in the Pitching Machine District Tournament, which will take place this weekend in DeQuincy. Of those teams, Mamou was the team from east sub-district that earned a first place seed.

Three teams from Evangeline Parish will head to DeQuincy to begin their quest for a district title. There will be two brackets (A & B) and the winners of each bracket will meet in the end to determine the top seed from District Seven.

Local all-stars of the Majors Division will converge on Pine Prairie this weekend in order to do battle for the top seeds of the District Seven Tournament which will be held in Ville Platte in the upcoming weeks.

It was an amazing season for Evangeline Parish baseball teams and one that will not be forgotten. The Sacred Heart Trojans shocked Class 1A and posted a 23-9 record en route to a state runner-up position. It was the first time in 21 years the Trojans made it to the title game.

It is no secret the 2014 Class 1A baseball world was stunned when the Trojans of Sacred Heart were sitting in the State Championship game in Sulphur. The Trojans had been stunning teams and the competition since the post-season had began.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association recently released their All-State teams. In Class 2A, Mamou High School had two diamond workers recognized for their hard work.

The 2014 High School Softball Season in Evangeline Parish was an interesting one. In a very rare occurrence, none of the teams made it to the State Tournament in Sulphur. However, three district champs came out of the parish.

After a sports year where nearly every sport made the post-season, Sacred Heart High School honored their athletes with their annual awards banquet. The administration and faculty did a great job of showing their appreciation to the student-athletes for their accomplishments.

It was a new athletic year at Ville Platte High School. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs were moved up to Class 3A and forced to compete against some very tough schools.

Julia Johnson, a Pine Prairie native, won the high school state golf championship for the second straight year. Johnson won her first state championship as an eighth grader and was looking to defend her crown again this year.
