The Sacred Heart Trojans are battling tough competition and getting ready for District 5-1A competition. Their district is pretty tough and will be a series of hard contests especially with North Central and Pointe Coupee Central in the mix.

With the reclassification and the splits in the playoffs, it was a really interesting year in Evangeline Parish football. We saw three teams: Basile, Sacred Heart and Ville Platte High; make it to the playoffs in their respective divisions.

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to Church Point to face a very talented Lady Bears team. It was a tough match-up against the Class 3A squad, which was to be expected.

It is not often that a football team puts more than one or two football players on an All-State team. When the Class 1A team was selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association, a total of three Bearcats saw their names on the list.

As the basketball season rolls toward the district season, the Lady Trojans of Sacred Heart continued to rack up wins and gain momentum. They went to Plaucheville and took on the Lady Eagles of St. Joseph’s Academy. Sacred Heart earned a 61-48 victory in impressive fashion.

The Panthers of Pine Prairie continued to pick up quality wins while competing at the Oberlin High School Tournament. They not only defeated parish rival Mamou and district rival Church Point, but also crushed the host team to earn the tournament title.

Mamou played in one of the toughest districts in Class 2A. It was a district that sent nearly every team to the post-season and even the state champion came out their district. Kinder won the Class 2A State Championship.

Pine Prairie improved to 13-4 right before the Christmas Break kicked in. The Panthers did so by defeating the Plainview Hornets 65-51. The win came in front of the Pine Prairie fans at the PPHS gym.

It has been said that playing tough competition only makes you better in the long run. If that is truly the case, then the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs (15-1) are doing all the right things and getting some quality wins along the way.

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans traveled to Oberlin High School to do battle in the Oberlin High School Basketball Tournament. They met a tough Oakhill team in the opening round and fell 54-48. Both teams played very well, but the Lady Rams were just a bit better on this day.
