Antique car club to visit Crowley

CROWLEY – On Friday May 23, the Evangeline chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) will be rolling into town with a slew of antique cars.

“We are really looking forward to this,” said Brenda Derouen of the AACA. “We have people from Mississippi, Texas, and all over Louisiana coming in.”

The group will be stopping initially at city hall to tour Crowley’s Model T Ford museum and its renowned Opera House, which is presently undergoing renovations. One of the Model T’s that are displayed in the museum was formerly owned by a member of the club.

On Saturday, the group will be holding a rally during the morning. The rally is basically “a scavenger hunt in cars” in which each participant is issued a list of questions to answer in an allotted time period. The group will then drive to Mamou for lunch.

Friday and Saturday evening the club will be dining at the LSU AgCenter. Fezzo’s restaurant will be providing the catering.

According to Derouen, the group is expecting approximately 90 people to come down for the gathering.

The Antique Automobile Club of America is based in Hershey, Pa. and is in its 51st year of existence. Brenda Derouen and her husband Boo have been involved since 1997.
