Arboretum friends to meet

The Friends of the Louisiana State Arboretum’s spring meeting will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 11:30 a.m.

The day’s activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a guided tour of the arboretum to be followed by a business meeting at 11:30 a.m. where election of officers will take place. Those attending should take a bag lunch.

After the meeting there will be a short tour of the new Arboretum site. Anyone wishing to join the Friends of the Arboretum is welcome to attend.

The Louisiana State Arboretum is a 301-acre preservation area providing three miles of hiking trails amid some of Louisiana’s most magnificent trees. Nature programs are offered throughout the year on varying subjects from wildlife gardening to birdwatching, and for groups of 10 or more by request. The Arboretum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The site is located eight miles north of Ville Platte on La. 3042, only one and a half miles north of the main entrance of Chicot State Park or two miles south of La. 106.
