Arvie couple charged in rape investigation

An investigation into an alleged rape of a 10-year-old child has led to charges being filed against a Ville Platte couple.

Detective./Sgt Joey Fontenot said the Ville Platte Police Department received a complaint from the 10-year-old victim’s grandmother Monday, March 24. The grandmother told authorities her granddaughter had been sexually molested by her stepfather Easter morning, March 23.

An investigation was conducted, and as a result, Cedric Arvie, 29, 111 E. Jackson St., Ville Platte, was arrested Tuesday, April 1, and booked on aggravated rape charges. His bond was set at $150,000 by 13th Judicial District Judge Thomas Fuselier.

Also charged in this incident was the victim’s mother, Chemella Arvie, 28, 111 E. Jackson St., Ville Platte. She was charged Wednesday morning, April 2, with accessory after the fact to the charge of aggravated rape. Her bond was set at $90,000 by Judge Fuselier.

The victim and her brother, who is six, were placed in the custody of the state.
