Atchafalaya fishermen seek allies

Catahoula — The Louisiana Crawfish Producers Association – West, an organization of commercial fishermen, sportsmen and environmentalists who banded together to take on landowners, oil companies and government agencies, will hold its annual meeting here March 11.

Attendance and membership is open to anyone with an interest in keeping public access to the waters of the Atchafalaya Basin.

Membership is the organization’s currency and its meetings have attracted state and local politicians.

The organization has won public access to Lake Rycade in federal court and is currently suing pipeline companies and others for damages in the Basin.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Catahoula Elementary School gym. March 11 is a Tuesday.
